RM4.968 Million GKCDA Allocation Boosts Kedup Infrastructure

TEBEDU – The Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) has allocated close to RM4.968 million for infrastructure upgrades in the Kedup State Legislative Assembly (DUN) area. The projects aim to improve basic facilities and raise living standards among rural communities.

In Kampung Mentu Mawang, two key projects took shape. The first involved the construction of a village road costing RM368,000. The project finished in eight months and now offers residents safer travel and easier access to nearby areas.

The second project involves the construction of the Kedup River Bridge, valued at RM4.3 million. Work started on 24 November 2025 and is scheduled for completion on 23 February 2027, covering a 15-month construction period.

The bridge will span 50 metres in length and measure 5.5 metres in width. A 200-metre connecting road of the same width forms part of the project, along with supporting infrastructure designed for long-term durability.

The completed road and the ongoing bridge works were officially launched during a community event in Kampung Mentu Mawang. The ceremony was officiated by Sarawak Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development, Datuk Martin Ben.

During his speech, Datuk Martin said the new infrastructure will improve mobility for villagers and shorten travel time for daily activities. He added that better connectivity encourages residents to develop unused land for commercial farming, including oil palm cultivation, which supports local income.

He also spoke about Kedup’s long-term development potential. With stronger infrastructure and growing economic activity, the area stands in a stronger position for elevation to sub-district status within the next five to ten years.

The Kedup River Bridge stands as a major addition for the area. Once finished, residents gain safer and more reliable access across the river, strengthening links between villages and supporting broader rural growth.

GKCDA’s investment reflects the Sarawak Government’s push to close infrastructure gaps in rural regions. Projects in places such as Tebedu help ensure development reaches communities across the state.
