JAKIM Sarawak MADANI Iftar Brings Comfort to Lawas PDK Residents

The event was held in Lawas in collaboration with the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (PERKIM) Lawas Branch. The gathering aimed to support residents of PDK while strengthening the spirit of unity and compassion associated with Ramadan.

Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, who also serves as patron of PDK Lawas, said society must recognise and support people with disabilities. She said individuals with disabilities should not be seen as a burden, adding that their resilience often inspires patience and gratitude among others.

During the ceremony, 50 recipients received donations intended to ease financial pressures and encourage continued community support.

Hamdan Jar’ee reaffirmed the department’s commitment to working with PDK centres and partner organisations. He said cooperation between agencies strengthens welfare programmes and helps ensure assistance reaches those who need it most.

The programme also included a Ramadan tazkirah before participants gathered for the iftar meal. The shared breaking of fast created a warm setting that reflected values of compassion, unity, and mutual care.

The initiative forms part of wider efforts by JAKIM Sarawak to strengthen community welfare programmes across the state. Through cooperation with local organisations, the event highlighted how religious institutions and community groups work together to support vulnerable members of society.

As Ramadan continues, programmes like this serve as a reminder of the importance of inclusivity and compassion, ensuring every member of the community feels supported and valued.
