The site inspection, held on 16 March 2026 at 9.30 am, was led by Mr Bernard Lee Thien Tze alongside a team of audit officers.

Representatives from the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak included SPAD Audit Branch officer Ir. Ts. Dr Lai Phui Hua and Quality Manager Ir. Sim Hui Kheng.

During the visit, the audit team received a detailed briefing from JKR Kuching Division on the current status of the project.

This was followed by a physical inspection of the site to assess the condition of works, adherence to specifications, and overall project management effectiveness.

The Jalan Baru Matang Project is one of several infrastructure initiatives under RMKe-12 aimed at improving connectivity and supporting socio-economic development in Sarawak.

The audit visit forms part of routine oversight to ensure that projects are delivered efficiently and meet the required standards.

JKR Sarawak reaffirmed its commitment to cooperate fully with the audit team. The department emphasised that all feedback, criticisms, and recommendations would be carefully considered to enhance the quality of infrastructure delivery for the benefit of the people.

Officials highlighted that such audits are crucial for maintaining accountability and transparency in public projects.

They also serve to identify areas for improvement, ensuring that infrastructure developments continue to meet community needs while adhering to safety and quality benchmarks.

The Jalan Baru Matang Project is expected to play a significant role in easing traffic congestion and improving accessibility in Kuching.

By strengthening road networks, the project supports broader goals of economic growth and regional development under the 12th Malaysia Plan.

The audit visit concluded smoothly, reflecting the collaborative spirit between the Sarawak State Audit Department and JKR Sarawak.

Both agencies expressed their determination to ensure that infrastructure projects are implemented responsibly and effectively, reinforcing public trust in government-led development initiatives.
