KUCHING — The Royal Malaysia Police have arrested three local men in connection with separate robbery and burglary cases in Kuching, following swift action by officers from the Kuching District Police Headquarters.
In the first incident, a 39-year-old Maxim e-hailing driver was robbed by two men at about 3.08am on March 16 in the Kampung Gita Baru area. The victim was approached and reportedly threatened by the suspects, who then fled with his belongings. The victim suffered an estimated loss of RM2,850.
Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Anak Chabu, said police acted quickly based on information and intelligence gathered after the report was lodged. A special team managed to track down and arrest two local men aged 51 and 25, believed to be involved in the robbery.
During the operation, police also seized several items suspected to be linked to the case. Background checks revealed that both suspects have previous criminal records. Initial urine screening tests conducted on the suspects returned positive results for drugs.
The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397 of the Penal Code, for gang robbery using a weapon. If convicted, the suspects face a prison sentence of up to 20 years and may also be liable to whipping.
In a separate case on the same day, police arrested a 21-year-old local man at about 12.15 midnight in the Jalan Central Timur area. The suspect is believed to be involved in a burglary at a house that was under renovation.
Police investigations found that the suspect had allegedly entered the premises and removed several items. An initial urine test also showed positive results for drugs. The court has granted a three-day remand order until March 19, 2026, to assist further investigations.
This case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine. Repeat offenders may also face whipping upon conviction.
ACP Alexson advised members of the public to stay away from criminal activities and reminded them that strict action will be taken against offenders. He also urged anyone with information related to criminal activities to contact the Kuching IPD Control Centre at 082-244444.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring that law and order are upheld in Kuching.
