KUCHING — The Royal Malaysia Police through the Kuching District Police Headquarters carried out an integrated crime prevention operation from March 14 to 15, 2026, aimed at reducing criminal activities across the city.
The operation, known as Operasi Bersepadu Cegah Jenayah, was conducted from 11pm until 3am. A total of five senior police officers and 33 rank-and-file personnel from various divisions and police stations under the Kuching district administration were deployed.
The focus areas of the operation included the jurisdictions under Sekama Police Station, Gita Police Station and Tabuan Jaya Police Station. These locations have been identified as areas requiring consistent monitoring to prevent crime and ensure public safety.
Throughout the four-hour operation, police inspected 293 individuals and checked 272 vehicles. Enforcement teams also issued 96 traffic summonses under PDRM (K) 257 for various traffic offences.
During the operation, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division detained one suspect who was riding a Yamaha motorcycle and allegedly performing a dangerous wheelie stunt along Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakob. Police said such actions pose serious risks not only to the rider but also to other road users. The suspect was arrested under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
According to police, the primary objective of the operation was to conduct patrols and preventive enforcement to reduce crime rates to the lowest possible level, particularly cases involving vehicle theft, house break-ins and robbery. The presence of uniformed personnel was also intended to project strong police visibility in identified crime hot spots.
In addition, officers carried out snap checks on suspicious individuals and vehicles, while traffic personnel took action against violations, especially those involving motorcyclists. The operation also aimed to trace and apprehend individuals listed as wanted persons.
The Kuching District Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order in the city. Such integrated operations will continue to be carried out from time to time to ensure the safety and well-being of the public.
Members of the public are urged to cooperate with the authorities and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. Public safety remains a shared responsibility, and proactive enforcement efforts are essential in keeping Kuching secure.
