Sarawak Governor Joins Iftar and Prayers with Community Leaders

KUCHING – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, attended a Ramadan gathering at the Astana Surau on March 19, joined by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

The evening brought together family members, senior officials, and representatives from various organisations for iftar and congregational prayers, including Maghrib, Isyak, and Tarawih.

Among those present were the governor’s daughters, Sharifah Fariah, Sharifah Nong Jasima, and Sharifah Nuril Barieyah, along with their spouses and children.

Other relatives also attended, including the parents of Encik Muhammad Syukri, Mohamad Draim bin Abdul Latip and Norsiah binti Ras.

The gathering also drew several notable figures from academia and community groups. Prof. Emeritus Datuk Ts. Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi was there with his wife, Datin Kartini Ahmad.

Professor Dr Firdaus Abdullah, Rector of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), attended with his wife, Puan Siti Nur Aishah Jaafar. Prof. Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, Vice-Chancellor of UNIMAS, was also present.

Community leaders joined as well. Among them were Major (Rtd) Tuan Haji Ibrahim Haji Dawi, Deputy Chairman of the Saribas Muslim Residents Association (PEWARIS), and Puan Hajah Dayang Fadzura from the Women’s Committee of Majlis Darul Hasanah in Sourabaya.

The evening started with a simple breaking of fast, followed by Maghrib prayers. Guests then shared a meal before continuing with Isyak and Tarawih prayers, led by Dato Haji Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi, the Grand Imam of Sarawak.

After the prayers, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi spoke about the value of spending time together during Ramadan. He said gatherings like this help strengthen relationships and keep important values at the centre of daily life.

He and his wife also offered prayers for continued harmony among Muslims in Sarawak, encouraging the community to hold on to strong values and deepen their understanding of their faith.
