SRI AMAN – The spirit of cross-border cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia was highlighted during the Malindo 2.0 Social Service Convoy 2026, which took place at the Tebedu–Entikong border crossing on the third day of the programme.
The convoy, involving 23 pickup vehicles, was flagged off by Gerard George Entigar, Tebedu Election Officer, at the Tebedu Election Office.
The four-day, three-night programme runs from 25 to 29 March, bringing participants from ICQS Tebedu to Balai Krangan and Badau in West Kalimantan before returning to Tebedu.
The initiative was jointly organised by the Sarawak Four Wheel Drive Association (SAKTA) and the Indonesian Off-Road Federation (IOF), reflecting strong collaboration between both nations.
The convoy not only showcased off-road endurance but also carried a humanitarian mission, focusing on supporting elderly communities along the route.
Gerard George emphasised the importance of discipline and professionalism among convoy drivers, particularly in ensuring the safety and well-being of elderly participants.
“Being a convoy driver, we should show professional behaviour as well as discipline, with care and concern for the elderly,” he said.
The programme included visits to elderly care centres in West Kalimantan, where participants provided assistance and support.
The convoy also served as a platform for people-to-people diplomacy, strengthening ties between Malaysian and Indonesian communities through shared activities and cultural exchange.
Organisers noted that the Malindo 2.0 convoy builds upon a two-year pact between the two countries, reinforcing regional cooperation and mutual understanding.
The initiative has been recognised as a model community programme, combining elements of charity, advocacy, and grassroots diplomacy.
By engaging both local organisations and residents, the convoy demonstrated how cross-border collaboration can foster unity and deliver tangible benefits to communities.
The event also highlighted the role of civil society groups in complementing government efforts to promote regional harmony.
The Malindo 2.0 Social Service Convoy is expected to continue as a recurring initiative, strengthening Malaysia-Indonesia relations while addressing community needs, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly.
