LAWAS – The Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia Lawas has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting community welfare, particularly for those in need, through a series of initiatives during Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who also serves as the Bukit Sari assemblyman, praised PERKIM Lawas for its work in social, educational, and health programmes.
He highlighted the distribution of Hari Raya assistance to more than 1,300 recipients this year as evidence of the organisation’s dedication.
Speaking at the PERKIM Lawas Aidilfitri gathering on Tuesday, Awang Tengah noted that despite being a small district, Lawas has shown strong capacity in mobilising resources to support vulnerable groups.
He called for closer collaboration between PERKIM, government agencies, and NGOs to ensure welfare programmes are carried out effectively and reach those who need them most.
Updates on the construction of the new PERKIM Lawas building were also shared. The facility, which is progressing well, will serve as a community hub for welfare initiatives, educational activities, and social gatherings once completed.
Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, Chairperson of PERKIM Lawas, said the Aidilfitri event was organised to recognise the efforts of PERKIM members during Ramadan.
She added that the organisation will continue hosting programmes that support underprivileged families in preparation for Hari Raya.
These initiatives reflect PERKIM Lawas’ wider mission of promoting community well-being. By combining grassroots efforts with institutional support, the organisation strengthens welfare delivery in northern Sarawak while fostering compassion, solidarity, and social cohesion.
