JPJ Kuching Steps Up Monitoring Under Ops HRA 2026

KUCHING – The Road Transport Department Sarawak (JPJ Sarawak) Kuching branch (JPJ Kuching) has intensified its enforcement operations under Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri (HRA) 2026, with a particular focus on monitoring accident-prone areas across the state.

The initiative, which began ahead of the festive season, is aimed at reducing road accidents and ensuring smoother traffic flow during a period that traditionally sees a surge in vehicle numbers.

With school holidays coinciding with Aidilfitri, JPJ has identified several high-risk locations where enforcement officers are now stationed to monitor compliance and encourage safer driving behaviours.

JPJ officials explained that the increased presence of enforcement teams is not only about issuing summonses but also serves as a preventive measure.

By being visible in critical areas, officers hope to raise awareness among motorists and deter reckless driving, speeding, and other traffic offences that often lead to accidents.

The department stressed that road safety remains a top priority, especially during festive seasons when families travel long distances to reunite.

JPJ Sarawak has pledged to continue strengthening its enforcement and monitoring efforts throughout the duration of Ops HRA 2026.

Authorities have also reminded road users to carry out basic vehicle checks before embarking on journeys, including tyre condition, brakes, and lights.

Public awareness campaigns are being run in parallel with enforcement, highlighting the importance of responsible driving and adherence to traffic laws.

Ops HRA is a nationwide initiative carried out annually by JPJ, the Royal Malaysia Police, and other agencies to curb road accidents during major festive periods.

In Sarawak, the operation has been tailored to local conditions, with accident-prone stretches of road receiving particular attention.

JPJ Sarawak noted that while enforcement is crucial, cooperation from the public is equally important. Motorists are urged to plan their journeys carefully, avoid fatigue, and respect speed limits to ensure the safety of all road users.

The department reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives on the road, stating that the success of Ops HRA 2026 depends on both strict enforcement and the willingness of drivers to adopt safe practices.
