JPJ Sarikei Enforces Ops HRA 2026 on Pan Borneo Highway

SARIKEI – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak, through its Sarikei branch (JPJ Sarikei), has intensified road safety enforcement during the festive season with Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri (HRA) 2026.

The operation was conducted on Sunday, 29 March, covering Sarikei town and the Sarikei–Sibu stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway.

Throughout the exercise, JPJ officers inspected 36 vehicles of different types. Several violations were identified, including poor vehicle maintenance, unauthorised modifications to vehicle structures and equipment, as well as other technical offences. Each case was dealt with according to the provisions of the law.

The enforcement drive is part of JPJ’s wider initiative to ensure safer roads during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, a period when traffic volumes typically rise.

By focusing on technical compliance, JPJ aims to reduce risks associated with unsafe vehicles and modifications that compromise roadworthiness.

The Sarikei Branch emphasised that strict monitoring is essential to protect road users and to encourage motorists to take responsibility for their vehicles.

JPJ reminded drivers to ensure their cars are properly maintained and compliant with regulations before embarking on long journeys.

Ops HRA is being carried out across Sarawak, with enforcement stations in different divisions working to curb offences ranging from expired licences to unsafe vehicle conditions.

The Sarikei operation reflects JPJ’s commitment to consistent enforcement, reinforcing the message that road safety must remain a priority.

JPJ Sarawak stated that it will continue to intensify patrols and inspections along major routes, including the Pan Borneo Highway, to safeguard travellers during the festive season.

The department also urged the public to cooperate with enforcement officers and to view compliance as a shared responsibility in reducing accidents.

The operation highlights JPJ’s ongoing role in strengthening road safety culture in Sarawak, ensuring that festive celebrations are not marred by preventable tragedies.
