KUCHING – The Sarawak State Chief Executive, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, attended the Aidilfitri Thanksgiving Ceremony organised by Sarawak Islamic agencies for the year 1447H/2026M. The event took place at the Sarawak Islamic Complex Hall on 29 March.
Their daughter, Sharifah Fariah, accompanied them to the ceremony. The family’s arrival at 8.30pm was warmly received by senior state officials, including YB Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar bin Marzuki, Secretary to the Sarawak Government, and his wife YBhg Dato Hajah Baduyah binti Haji Bujang.
Also present were YB Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, YBhg Datuk Haji Misnu bin Haji Taha, President of the Sarawak Islamic Council, and Tuan Haji Mual bin Haji Suaud, Director of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department.
The ceremony was further graced by YB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Asfia bin Awang Nassar, Speaker of the Sarawak State Assembly, alongside department heads, representatives of other faiths, and members of Sarawak’s Islamic agencies.
As part of the evening’s programme, Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan visited 16 stalls creatively decorated by Islamic agencies. Each stall showcased festive delicacies inspired by Eid traditions from different states and countries, adding vibrancy to the celebration.
In his address, Datuk Haji Misnu bin Haji Taha expressed deep appreciation for the presence of Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan, noting that this was the first time they had attended the Aidilfitri Thanksgiving ceremony, organised by the Sarawak Islamic Council.
He emphasised that their participation provided encouragement and inspiration to members of Islamic agencies, reinforcing their commitment to serving the community and upholding Islamic values in Sarawak.
Tun Pehin Sri, in his remarks, conveyed gratitude to the Sarawak Islamic Council for hosting the event. He highlighted the importance of such gatherings in fostering unity and strengthening brotherhood among Islamic agencies, while also celebrating the spirit of Aidilfitri.
The ceremony featured cultural performances and activities that reflected the festive atmosphere and the values of togetherness. The event was seen as a platform to reinforce collaboration among Islamic institutions and to promote inclusivity within Sarawak’s diverse society.
The presence of the state’s top leadership underscored the government’s support for Islamic institutions and their role in community development.
It also highlighted the broader message of unity, with representatives from different religious backgrounds joining the celebration, symbolising Sarawak’s commitment to harmony and mutual respect.
