Limbang Infrastructure Boost as 3 Major RTP Projects Gain Momentum

LIMBANG – A series of key infrastructure developments aimed at enhancing social and spiritual life in Northern Sarawak are moving forward following a high-level site inspection on 30 March 2026.

Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, the Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodities, and Regional Development, conducted a progress review of three separate projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).

The visit focused on the proposed PERKIM Branch Building, the Limbang Badminton Association (PBL) Hall, and a crucial surau upgrade in Kampung Penapak.

These projects represent a multi-million ringgit investment into the local community’s recreational and welfare facilities.

Regarding the new PERKIM facility on Jalan Kubu, the Deputy Minister confirmed that the building will be situated on land currently held by PERKIM Pusat Kuching.

With a projected budget of RM3 million, the Public Works Department (JKR) is currently finalising the architectural designs. If funding allocations are approved as scheduled, construction is slated to commence before the end of this year.

In the sporting sector, the Limbang Badminton Association Hall is set to be developed through a phased approach.

An initial RM500,000 has been earmarked for the current year to kickstart the project, which carries a total estimated price tag of RM2 million.

Once completed in 2028, the facility will boast four regulation-size courts and dedicated parking zones to serve the region’s athletes.

Progress has also been reported for the Kampung Penapak surau. The project, which had previously faced delays due to soil compaction technicalities, is now back on schedule.

Engineering teams have successfully resolved the ground stability issues, allowing for piling works to begin next month. Local residents can expect the new place of worship to be functional by October 2026.

Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, who also serves as the assemblyman for Bukit Kota, emphasised that these site visits are essential to ensure project timelines are met.

He noted that the Sarawak government remains dedicated to narrowing the infrastructure gap between urban and rural settings.

The integration of these facilities is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for Limbang residents by providing modern spaces for religious activities, sports, and community welfare services.
