Sarawak Governor Joins Aidilfitri Ceremony with Security, MPV & Traffic Force

KUCHING – Sarawak’s Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, took part in a special Aidilfitri welcoming event on 3 April. The gathering honoured the security, MPV, and traffic personnel from the Astana Sarawak contingent of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

The ceremony unfolded at the PGA Tent within the grounds of Kasuma Resort, the official residence. It followed directly after the governor’s Friday prayers, blending religious observance with festive commemoration.

Joining Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan was their daughter, Sharifah Fariah. The family’s attendance added a personal touch to the proceedings, highlighting close ties between state leadership and frontline services.

This informal occasion aimed to boost morale during the ongoing Hari Raya celebrations. Aidilfitri, marking the end of Ramadan in the Islamic calendar year 1447H, remains a time of joy and togetherness in Malaysia. Such events help sustain the festive spirit of Lebaran, fostering stronger relationships among team members.

PDRM’s Astana Sarawak unit handles critical duties, including residence protection, mobile patrol vehicles (MPV), and traffic management. These roles ensure safety around key state sites, particularly during high-profile visits and holidays. The welcoming ceremony recognised their unwavering commitment.

Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan conveyed their thanks to the dedicated staff. They praised the initiative behind the event and wished for enduring camaraderie. This, they hoped, would support the personnel in fulfilling their responsibilities effectively.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri, often simply called Hari Raya or Eid, is one of Malaysia’s most cherished festivals. Families reunite, homes open for open houses, and communities exchange greetings. In Sarawak, the celebration reflects the state’s unique multicultural harmony, with Muslims sharing the joy alongside other groups.

Kasuma Resort, serving as the governor’s residence, frequently hosts such community-focused activities. Named after a local flower, it symbolises elegance and hospitality. The PGA Tent provides a versatile space for gatherings, from official functions to relaxed festivities like this one.

The event underscores the governor’s approachable style since taking office. Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi, a seasoned politician with a background in law and federal service, prioritises public engagement. His wife, Toh Puan Fauziah, complements these efforts through her involvement in social and welfare causes.

Sarawak’s police force plays a pivotal role in maintaining order across its vast terrain. With over 10,000 officers statewide, units like Astana Sarawak ensure VIP security amid the state’s growing tourism and events calendar. Post-Ramadan ceremonies like this reinforce team spirit after intense festive duties.

Local traditions during Aidilfitri include feasting on ketupat, rendang, and lemang, alongside duit raya gifts for children. Extending celebrations beyond the first day, as seen here, prolongs the sense of unity. PDRM often organises similar morale-boosting meets to honour personnel who work through holidays.

The gathering also reflects broader national practices. In Malaysia, leaders from royalty to governors participate in police and security events, affirming mutual respect. This strengthens public trust in institutions tasked with protection.

No formal speeches dominated the relaxed atmosphere; instead, it focused on interaction and appreciation. Attendees likely shared stories from the festive period, further bonding the group.

Sarawak continues to thrive on such displays of solidarity. As the state advances in development, events like this Aidilfitri ceremony remind all of the human element behind public service.
