KUCHING – Contractors engaged by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) carried out tree trimming works at Padungan on Saturday, 4 April 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and improve the city’s environment.
The operation was scheduled over the weekend to minimise disruption to local businesses and residents. With favourable weather conditions, the works were expected to be completed within the day.
Motorists passing through Padungan were advised to exercise caution and follow traffic guidance provided at the site to ensure safety during the trimming activities.
Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, MBKS staff, Kapitan Kui Hua Kueh, and contractors were acknowledged for their contributions in ensuring the works were conducted smoothly. Their collective efforts reflect the council’s commitment to maintaining a safe and pleasant environment for the community.
Tree maintenance is a routine part of MBKS’s urban management strategy, aimed at reducing risks such as falling branches during storms and ensuring that public spaces remain accessible and attractive.
Regular trimming also helps promote healthier tree growth and supports the city’s broader environmental goals.
Councillor Eric Tay Tze Kok, who shared details of the operation, emphasised that such initiatives are vital in balancing urban development with community safety.
He noted that collaboration between the council, contractors and local leaders demonstrates the importance of collective responsibility in city upkeep.
Residents and business owners in Padungan have welcomed the works, recognising the importance of proactive measures in preventing hazards and maintaining the area’s appeal.
The operation forms part of MBKS’s wider agenda to enhance Kuching’s liveability and ensure that public spaces remain well cared for.
