KUCHING – A two-day Work Motivation Module Development Workshop and counselling session was held from 1 to 2 April 2026 at the Riverside Majestic Hotel, Putri Wing, Kuching.
The programme was organised by the Psychology and Counselling Unit of the Serian Division Social Welfare Office, with support from the Sarawak Civil Service Employee Support Service (SCS KSP).
The workshop brought together 30 participants, including 27 staff members from the Sarawak Social Welfare Department and representatives from related agencies.
Its primary objective was to design a practical and relevant work motivation module tailored to the needs of the organization, focusing on improving staff well-being, motivation, and overall performance.
Participants were guided through a structured module development process by Dr Mohd Shahrul Kamaruddin from the Faculty of Cognitive Science and Human Development, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).
His knowledge gave us useful information about how to build effective modules in a systematic way. Attendees also contributed ideas, feedback, and constructive suggestions to ensure the module would be comprehensive and suitable for the public service context in Sarawak.
The workshop had several positive outcomes. It improved participants’ knowledge and skills in module development, encouraged the exchange of experiences and best practices, and strengthened approaches to psychological interventions and workplace counselling. By fostering collaboration, the program helped participants align their strategies with organisational needs.
The module created during the workshop is expected to serve as a guide for implementing work motivation programmes across the Sarawak Social Welfare Department.
Organisers hope it will boost staff morale, psychological well-being, and productivity, while also supporting long-term organisational growth.
Officials noted that the initiative reflects the department’s commitment to employee support and development.
By integrating psychological counselling with practical tools, the programme aims to create a healthier and more motivated workforce.
Overall, the workshop was successfully conducted and achieved its intended objectives, marking another step forward in strengthening the Sarawak civil service’s focus on employee welfare and performance.
