KUCHING, April 6, 2026 – The Lien Heng Wushu Association once again demonstrated its commitment to community service by distributing 500 bags of rice to the public in a charity event held in conjunction with the birthday celebration of Guangze Zunwang at Fengshan Temple.
The meaningful programme was organised with the strong support of the Kuching Hokkien Association and several generous sponsors. Among them was Dato’ Zheng Yongfu, Director of Ma Hong Food Co., Ltd., who contributed 500 bags of rice. He also donated an additional 500 bags of sugar to be distributed to members of the public.
The rice distribution ceremony was carried out in an orderly and smooth manner, with volunteers guiding recipients throughout the process. Hundreds of beneficiaries, including senior citizens and low-income families, turned up early to receive the essential food items. The atmosphere at the temple grounds was calm and harmonious, reflecting the strong spirit of cooperation within the community.
In a statement, the association expressed its appreciation to the Kuching Hokkien Association and all sponsors for their unwavering support, which ensured the success of the programme. The collaboration between community groups and business leaders enabled more assistance to reach those who needed it most.
For many years, the Lien Heng Wushu Association has balanced its role in promoting traditional martial arts with active involvement in charitable initiatives. Its leadership believes that preserving culture must go hand in hand with fulfilling social responsibility. Through consistent outreach efforts, the association has built a reputation not only for discipline in martial arts but also for compassion in community service.
Dato’ Zheng Yongfu, known for his longstanding philanthropic work, reaffirmed his belief in giving back to society. His contribution was widely praised by attendees, who viewed his generosity as a positive example of corporate responsibility in action.
The charity event was held alongside the annual Guangze Zunwang birthday celebration, a major religious occasion deeply rooted in the local Chinese community. The celebration featured traditional rituals, prayer sessions and a deity procession. Organisers reported overwhelming response from devotees, with registration for the procession filling up quickly.
This year’s parade is expected to be larger than previous editions, with multiple dragon and lion dance troupes participating. Organisers anticipate strong public attendance, reflecting continued appreciation for traditional religious and cultural practices in Kuching.
The association stated that it will continue organising welfare activities in the future, working together with community partners to support vulnerable groups and strengthen social unity. In a time when rising living costs continue to affect many families, such practical assistance remains both relevant and necessary.
The event stands as a reminder that when tradition, faith and charity are combined, they can bring meaningful impact to the wider community.
