Man Stabbed on Jalan Bengkel Sibu, Suspect Arrested

SIBU, 7 April 2026 – A local man was seriously injured after being stabbed by an unknown assailant on the sidewalk of Jalan Bengkel here early Tuesday morning.

According to a press release by the Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Azari bin Miskon, the incident occurred at approximately 6:30 am on 6 April 2026. The victim, a 56-year-old local man, sustained injuries to his neck and right hand. He was immediately rushed to Sibu Rejang Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Police acted swiftly on the report and arrested a 58-year-old local suspect in connection with the case. A knife believed to have been used in the attack was also seized during the arrest. The suspect was remanded for six days, with remand ending on 12 April 2026, as investigations continue.

The motive behind the attack remains under investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which prescribes a prison sentence of up to twenty years, along with possible fines and whipping if the suspect is found guilty.

ACP Azari appealed to the public to refrain from spreading speculation that could affect the ongoing investigation. He urged anyone with relevant information to contact the investigating officer, ASP Siti Mariyah binti Dahari, at 010-2207187, or report to the nearest police station.
