LIMBANG – The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) has introduced a new initiative to strengthen project governance through the Divisional One Month Pledge Signing Session No. 1/2026, held on 8 April at the Limbang Division JKR Meeting Room, Plaza Limbang Building.
The pledge requires contractors to commit to achieving measurable progress within the first month of project implementation.
JKR Sarawak explained that the initiative is designed to ensure early momentum, reduce risks of delay, and reinforce accountability in project delivery.
Several rural bridge projects under the Sarawak Rural Bridge Transformation Programme were included in this session. Among them are:
Officials highlighted that these projects are vital for improving connectivity in rural areas, supporting local communities, and enhancing safety for road users.
The transformation programme aims to replace ageing structures with modern RSJ steel bridges, which are more durable and capable of handling heavier loads.
JKR Sarawak stated that close monitoring will be carried out to ensure contractors adhere to the pledge commitments.
The department emphasised that the initiative reflects its ongoing dedication to improving efficiency in project delivery and ensuring that development benefits reach the people of Sarawak without unnecessary delays.
The One Month Pledge concept is part of JKR’s broader governance framework, which seeks to instil discipline and accountability among contractors.
By requiring early progress, the department hopes to set a strong foundation for timely completion and quality assurance.
This approach also demonstrates JKR Sarawak’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure development, aligning with the state’s wider agenda of strengthening rural connectivity and supporting socio‑economic growth.
The department reiterated that the pledge system will continue to be implemented across divisions, ensuring consistency in project governance and reinforcing public confidence in Sarawak’s infrastructure development efforts.
