KUCHING, April 13 — A meaningful step towards strengthening community health awareness was taken today as Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA) and the Malaysian Red Crescent Kuching Branch jointly organised their first collaborative programme at Dormani Hotel here.
The event marked a significant milestone for both organisations, bringing together around 50 dedicated volunteers who shared a common goal of improving public health awareness and emergency preparedness within the local community.
The main focus of the programme was an awareness session on Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Participants were introduced to the basic principles of CPR techniques as well as the correct use of AED devices, both of which are crucial in responding to cardiac emergencies.
Organisers highlighted that immediate response during emergencies can make a critical difference between life and death. By equipping volunteers with essential knowledge, the programme aims to strengthen the community’s ability to act swiftly and effectively in crisis situations, particularly in cases of sudden cardiac arrest.
Representatives from both MAKNA and the Malaysian Red Crescent Kuching Branch described the collaboration as a strategic and timely initiative. They emphasised that combining expertise and resources allows both organisations to reach a wider audience and deliver more impactful health-related programmes in the future.
The strong turnout and active participation from volunteers reflected a growing awareness among the public on the importance of life-saving skills. Many participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to gain practical knowledge that could one day help save lives.
Beyond the training itself, the programme also served as a platform to foster stronger ties between the two organisations, paving the way for future joint initiatives. Both parties have expressed their intention to continue working together in organising similar programmes aimed at promoting health education, emergency response readiness, and community resilience.
As communities face increasing health challenges, initiatives such as this highlight the importance of preparedness and collective responsibility. The collaboration between MAKNA and the Malaysian Red Crescent Kuching Branch sets a solid foundation for future efforts in building a safer and more informed society.
