SRI AMAN – A community-centred fire safety initiative was successfully carried out in Kampung Radau Ulu Undop, Sri Aman, on 13 April 2026.
The programme, which ran from morning until late afternoon, brought together several government agencies to raise awareness and improve local preparedness for emergencies.
The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department led the event, supported by the Social Welfare Department (JKM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Ministry of Health (KKM), and Sri Aman District Council (MDSA). Their combined efforts aimed to strengthen public knowledge of fire prevention and response measures.
The programme featured practical demonstrations, including the correct use of fire extinguishers, alongside talks on fire safety.
These sessions were designed to provide residents with hands-on experience and to instil confidence in handling potential hazards.
Organisers emphasised that such training is vital in rural communities, where immediate access to emergency services may be limited.
PBK II (TBK I) Elijah Anak Tiyit served as the lead speaker, supported by personnel from the Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station.
His presentation highlighted the importance of community readiness and the role of individuals in safeguarding their households.
“Preparedness is the key to reducing risks and ensuring safety during emergencies,” he stated during the session.
Participants were encouraged to adopt preventive measures at home, such as maintaining safe electrical wiring and keeping fire extinguishers accessible.
The programme also underscored the importance of cooperation between residents and local authorities in responding effectively to incidents.
According to organisers, the event achieved its objective of enhancing awareness and building resilience among the local population.
Residents expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that the practical demonstrations provided valuable knowledge that could be applied in real-life situations.
Community outreach programmes of this nature are part of ongoing efforts by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department to reduce fire-related risks across Sarawak.
