SPAOH – An early morning cooking routine in Kampung Baru Spaoh took an unexpected turn when a local resident encountered a python in his kitchen.
The incident occurred at around 4 am when Mr Sidek, who was preparing food for sale, noticed the reptile.
Alarmed by the discovery, he immediately contacted the Spaoh District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) of the Civil Defence Force Spaoh unit (APM Spaoh) for assistance.
Responding swiftly, three members of the Alpha Squad were dispatched to the scene equipped with specialised tools for handling snakes.
Upon arrival, the team inspected the area where the python had last been spotted. Their search led them to a carcass beneath the stove, which was later confirmed to be a python measuring approximately five feet in length.
Authorities believe the snake had recently consumed a rat, which explained its presence in the kitchen. The team managed to secure the reptile using standard pinning techniques before placing it into a venomous animal box for safe transport.
The python was subsequently taken back to the PKOD for further action. Officials confirmed that the operation was completed without incident, with no injuries reported among the responding personnel. All equipment used during the mission was returned in good condition.
Local wildlife experts note that python sightings in residential areas are not uncommon, particularly in rural parts of Sarawak where human settlements border natural habitats.
Rats and other small animals often attract snakes into homes, especially during the early hours when food preparation is underway.
The Civil Defence Force has reminded residents to remain vigilant and to contact emergency services immediately if they encounter dangerous wildlife. Quick reporting, they emphasised, helps ensure both public safety and the humane handling of animals.
Residents in Spaoh have expressed relief at the prompt response, praising the professionalism and efficiency of the APM team.
