TANJUNG MANIS – A wasp nest the size of a takraw ball was successfully destroyed by the Civil Defence Force in Tanjung Manis following an emergency call from the public.
The incident occurred on 15 April when residents reported the presence of the nest within a pineapple plantation.
Concerned about the potential danger posed by the insects, the District Operations Control Centre dispatched four members of the APM team to the site.
Upon arrival, the team confirmed the presence of the nest and prepared the necessary equipment before carrying out the removal. The operation was completed safely, with no injuries reported among personnel or members of the public.
Officials explained that wasp nests of this size can pose significant risks, particularly in agricultural areas where workers are exposed to the threat of stings.
Wasps are known to be highly defensive of their nests, and their attacks can cause painful injuries and, in some cases, severe allergic reactions.
The Civil Defence Force reminded residents that professional assistance should always be sought in such cases. Attempting to remove nests without proper equipment or training can escalate the danger.
