SARIKEI – The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarikei Division successfully organised a blood donation programme on 16 April 2026, drawing strong participation from civil servants across various government departments.
The initiative was aimed at boosting the local blood supply while fostering a sense of unity and social responsibility among public sector staff.
The event was supported by the Sarikei Hospital Blood Bank Unit, led by Dr Christopher Wong Ha Kai. His medical team ensured that all screening and donation procedures were carried out in accordance with established health standards, providing a safe and orderly environment for donors.
A total of 54 individuals were confirmed eligible after undergoing strict health checks and successfully donated blood.
Organisers highlighted that the turnout reflected the commitment of civil servants to contribute to community welfare, with many staff members gathering under one administrative roof to take part.
In the afternoon, a brief ceremony was held to recognise the contributions of the donors. The event was officiated by Sarikei JKR Division Engineer, Ir. Ts. Kennedy Anak Kedo, who presented tokens of appreciation to participants. The gesture was intended to acknowledge the time and effort given by donors in helping save lives.
Officials noted that the programme not only strengthened community spirit but also promoted healthy lifestyles among civil servants.
They expressed hope that similar initiatives would be held regularly to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation and encourage more individuals to participate.
The campaign carried the message, “A drop of your blood, a million hopes for those in need,” underscoring the life-saving impact of each contribution.
Organisers emphasised that blood donation remains a vital resource for hospitals, particularly in emergency cases and for patients requiring long-term treatment.
Community leaders praised the initiative, pointing out that such programmes reinforce solidarity among government staff while directly benefiting the wider public.
They added that the involvement of civil servants sets a positive example for society, demonstrating how collective action can address critical healthcare needs.
