Lubok Tamang Road Officially Named by Sarawak Premier

The newly named Lubok Tamang Road stretches 9.5 kilometres, linking Kampung Suri with Kampung Manggut and Kampung Tuie.

The project, carried out by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development, cost RM35 million and was completed in April 2023.

Construction included two bridges spanning Sungai Jerai and Sungai Lubok Selubang, significantly improving connectivity in the area.

The road is expected to reduce travel time between Debak and Pusa, offering a safer and more comfortable journey for motorists.

The name ‘Lubok Tamang’ was proposed by Saribas State Assemblyman Datuk Mohammad Razi Bin Sitam in October 2023.

Historical accounts suggest the name originates from a deep river section once used as a resting point for boats and merchant vessels, with “tamang” referring to a temporary stop.

The infrastructure is set to benefit around 3,000 residents in surrounding villages, enhancing socio-economic opportunities and encouraging greater participation in agriculture.

Improved access is anticipated to support farmers in transporting produce more efficiently, while also opening up new avenues for modern farming practices.

Lubok Tamang Road is expected to serve as the main route to the Lubok Tamang Agropark, a development project aimed at boosting agricultural productivity in the Saribas region.

The agropark is envisioned as a hub for modern farming techniques, potentially driving economic growth and creating new opportunities for local communities.

Speaking at the ceremony, the premier highlighted the importance of infrastructure in supporting rural development and improving livelihoods.

He emphasised that projects such as Lubok Tamang Road are part of Sarawak’s broader strategy to strengthen connectivity and empower communities across the state.

The completion of this road marks another step in Sarawak’s ongoing efforts to expand its infrastructure network, ensuring rural areas are not left behind in the state’s development agenda.

With better roads and improved access, residents are expected to enjoy greater mobility, enhanced safety, and stronger economic prospects.
