Upon arrival, the complainant directed the team to the location of the nest, which was found beneath the outer roof structure.

The nest, estimated to be the size of a handball, posed a potential risk to worshippers and nearby residents.

Wasp infestations are known to cause safety concerns, particularly in public spaces, as stings can trigger allergic reactions and lead to medical emergencies.

According to entomology experts, nests of this size often indicate an active colony that requires careful handling to prevent aggressive behaviour.

The APM team carried out the destruction operation using insecticide spraying techniques. The procedure was conducted in a controlled manner to ensure the safety of both personnel and the public.

Officials later confirmed that the operation was completed successfully without any injuries or damage to property.

Following the incident, the team returned to the Lawas District Civil Defence Centre (PDPA), where all members and equipment were reported to be in good condition.

The PKOD emphasised that such operations are part of its ongoing commitment to community safety, highlighting the importance of rapid response in preventing hazards from escalating.

Public health specialists note that wasp nests are increasingly common in residential and community areas during warmer months, as the insects seek sheltered spaces to build colonies.

Preventive measures, such as regular inspections of roof structures and communal facilities, are recommended to reduce risks.

Residents are reminded that in the event of similar emergencies, they should avoid attempting removal themselves and instead contact trained authorities. The PKOD Lawas can be reached at 085-262073 for immediate assistance.

This incident underscores the role of local civil defence teams in safeguarding communities from environmental and health-related threats.
