SIBU – The closing ceremony of the Civil Defence Force (APM) Basic Course for Zone 4 Sarawak, Series 1/2026, was held at Junaco Park Camp in Sibu from 18 to 19 April 2026.
The event marked the successful completion of intensive training designed to prepare volunteer members for future emergency and disaster response operations.
Lt (PA) Johny Anak Jamit, Pakan District Civil Defence Officer, was among the invited guests at the ceremony, which celebrated the achievements of participants who had undergone rigorous instruction over the two-day programme.
The course was structured to strengthen technical skills, mental resilience, and operational readiness, ensuring that volunteers are equipped to serve effectively in challenging circumstances.
The training focused on three key areas. Firstly, technical instruction covered essential rescue techniques, bonding exercises, and emergency treatment skills.
These practical components are vital for volunteers who may be deployed in disaster zones, where immediate action can save lives.
Secondly, mental resilience was emphasised, with participants encouraged to cultivate teamwork and maintain composure under pressure. This aspect of the course is considered crucial in fostering unity and confidence among members.
Finally, operational readiness was reinforced, ensuring that each participant is prepared to be mobilised swiftly when required for relief missions across Zone 4.
The closing ceremony highlighted the importance of volunteerism in strengthening community safety and disaster preparedness.
Organisers commended the participants for their dedication and commitment, noting that the skills acquired will contribute significantly to Sarawak’s overall emergency response capacity.
APM officials reiterated the organisation’s guiding principle of “Ready Fast with Integrity”, underscoring the values of discipline, speed, and responsibility in every mission.
The ceremony also served as a reminder of the vital role played by volunteers in supporting the Civil Defence Force’s broader objectives of safeguarding lives and property.
The successful completion of the course reflects ongoing efforts by APM to expand its volunteer base and enhance its operational capabilities.
With natural disasters and emergencies posing constant risks, the training of competent volunteers remains a priority for Sarawak’s Civil Defence Force.
