SERIAN – The National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) Serian District successfully concluded Operation Perdana No. 2/2026, which ran from 14 to 16 April across several locations in Serian, Siburan, and Balai Ringin.
The three-day enforcement effort involved 10 AADK officers and members, resulting in the arrest of 11 individuals, comprising 10 men and one woman aged between 22 and 59.
Initial screenings indicated that all those detained were suspected of involvement in drug abuse. They were taken into custody under Section 3(1) of the Drug and Substance Abusers and Addicts (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983, pending further investigation and rehabilitation measures.
Authorities explained that the operation was carried out through coordinated intelligence gathering and continuous monitoring.
The integrated approach was designed to disrupt drug-related activities at the community level, reflecting AADK’s broader strategy of combining enforcement with rehabilitation.
Drug abuse remains a pressing concern in Sarawak, with agencies such as AADK working to balance punitive measures with treatment programmes.
National reports have highlighted the importance of community-based interventions, noting that rehabilitation is often more effective when combined with consistent enforcement and preventive education.
AADK Serian District reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying both enforcement operations and awareness campaigns.
Officials stressed that the agency’s role extends beyond arrests, aiming to ensure that individuals struggling with substance abuse are given opportunities for recovery and reintegration into society.
The operation also underscored the importance of collaboration between local enforcement units and community stakeholders.
By maintaining a visible presence in hotspot areas, AADK hopes to deter drug-related activities while encouraging residents to participate in prevention efforts.
As Sarawak continues to strengthen its anti-drug initiatives, Operation Perdana No. 2/2026 serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by communities and the ongoing need for vigilance.
The arrests highlight the persistence of drug abuse issues, but also demonstrate the authorities’ determination to safeguard public wellbeing through sustained action.
