SIBU: Police have arrested an Indonesian man suspected of robbing an elderly e-hailing driver at knifepoint along Jalan Teku-Pasai Siong last week.

The incident occurred around 4.30 am on May 30 when the 55-year-old woman picked up the suspect and drove him to a nearby location. During the ride, the suspect allegedly held a knife to the victim’s neck, prompting her to free herself and exit the vehicle for safety.

The suspect then fled with the woman’s car and valuables. Shortly after, the victim’s car was found crashed not far from the crime scene, but the suspect had already escaped.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) managed to locate and arrest the suspect around 1.30 pm in an open area along Jalan Ling Kai Cheng yesterday (June 2).

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
