SIBURAN – A snake-catching operation was successfully carried out in Kampung Sarig, Siburan, on Monday, 27 June 2026, after residents reported the presence of a reptile beneath a chair at a local home.
The emergency call was received by the MyAspa O Bravo squad, which quickly mobilised four personnel to the location. Upon arrival, the team assessed the surroundings to ensure the area was safe before commencing the operation.
Using specialised equipment, the squad identified the reptile as a yellow cane snake. The team employed the pincer method to lure and secure the snake, ensuring that no harm came to either the residents or the personnel involved. The operation concluded without incident, and all assets and members returned safely.
The Civil Defence Force (APM) in Serian confirmed that the case was handled efficiently, highlighting the importance of community vigilance in reporting wildlife encounters.
The complainant’s swift action in contacting authorities allowed the squad to respond promptly and prevent potential danger.
Snake sightings are relatively common in Sarawak, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas where reptiles often seek shelter in homes or nearby structures.
Experts note that the yellow cane snake, while not among the most venomous species, can still pose risks if provoked.
Authorities continue to advise residents to avoid attempting to capture snakes themselves. Instead, they are urged to contact trained personnel who have the necessary equipment and expertise to handle such situations safely.
Public awareness campaigns have been ongoing across Sarawak to educate communities on the importance of reporting wildlife incidents and maintaining safe practices.
The successful operation in Kampung Sarig reflects the preparedness of local emergency teams and the effectiveness of coordinated responses.
It also underscores the need for continued collaboration between residents and authorities to manage human-wildlife interactions responsibly.
As Sarawak develops further, encounters with wildlife are expected to remain a challenge. Emergency services are working to strengthen their response mechanisms and to promote greater awareness of environmental safety.
The Kampung Sarig incident serves as a reminder of the crucial role played by both community members and trained personnel in ensuring public safety.
