KUCHING – The Sarawak State Youth and Sports Department (JBS) welcomed a courtesy visit from the Malaysian Gymnasium Employers Association (PPGM) on 30 April, marking a significant step towards expanding bodybuilding and fitness initiatives in the state.
The meeting was held at the Sarawak State Youth and Sports Complex and was attended by PPGM President and Enrich Bodybuilding Club President Mr Krishnakumar.
The strategic session focused on planning a bodybuilding tournament to be organised within the parliamentary constituency of the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports.
This initiative is expected to strengthen Sarawak’s role as a host for national-level sporting events, while also encouraging greater participation in fitness and bodybuilding among local communities.
PPGM has already established a strong presence in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah through a series of successful tours last year.
The decision to expand into Sarawak reflects the association’s commitment to broadening the reach of bodybuilding and promoting fitness culture across Malaysia.
Kuching was chosen as the main location for this expansion, underscoring the city’s growing reputation as a centre for sports and youth development.
During the meeting, organisers highlighted their dedication to safe sports practices and anti-doping principles.
PPGM’s credibility is reinforced by its recognition in the Malaysia Book of Records, where it holds two notable achievements.
This emphasis on integrity and safety aligns with national and international standards, ensuring that bodybuilding events in Sarawak will be conducted responsibly.
The Sarawak State Youth and Sports Department expressed its support for the initiative, noting that such collaborations contribute to the development of a fitness-orientated culture.
Officials emphasised that hosting bodybuilding tournaments can inspire young athletes, promote healthy lifestyles, and position Sarawak as a dynamic destination for sports events.
Observers believe that the partnership between PPGM and JBS could pave the way for more structured programmes in the future, including training workshops, fitness campaigns, and competitive events.
These efforts are expected to enhance Sarawak’s profile in the national sports scene while providing opportunities for local talent to showcase their skills.
By welcoming PPGM’s initiative, Sarawak is taking another step towards diversifying its sports offerings and encouraging community participation in fitness.
The collaboration reflects a shared vision of promoting health, discipline, and excellence through bodybuilding and related activities.
