BAU – The Bau District Police Headquarters has confirmed the detention of a 23-year-old man following a positive drug test conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division on 1 May 2026.
The screening took place at approximately 3.20 pm and was part of ongoing enforcement efforts against drug-related offences in the district.
According to police, the suspect was initially identified in connection with allegations of child abuse. Subsequent urine screening revealed traces of drugs, leading to his detention under provisions of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Authorities emphasised that the case demonstrates their commitment to tackling both drug abuse and related criminal behaviour.
Bau District Police Chief, PISUPT Mohd Haide bin A. Rahman, stated that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will act firmly against any involvement in drug abuse, underscoring the seriousness with which such offences are treated.
He reiterated that narcotics-related crimes not only endanger individuals but also pose wider risks to families and communities.
The Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 remains one of Malaysia’s key legislative tools in combating drug misuse, providing police with the authority to detain individuals who test positive for controlled substances.
Enforcement under this law is regularly carried out across Sarawak, reflecting the state’s broader strategy to reduce drug-related harm and safeguard public welfare.
Authorities have also encouraged members of the public to assist in the fight against narcotics by reporting suspicious activities.
