Datuk Amar highlighted Mukah’s strategic position to grow as a digital and innovation hub, supported by infrastructure expansion and the strengthening of the education sector.

Institutions such as the Sarawak Technical Excellence Centre (CENTEXS) and MARA University of Technology (UiTM) Sarawak Branch Mukah Campus are seen as catalysts in producing a highly skilled workforce.

“This combination of education and technical training supports efforts to make Mukah a centre based on knowledge, technology and innovation,” he added.

Beyond infrastructure and education, Mukah is also being positioned as a centre for modern agriculture and the blue economy.

Its coastal location offers opportunities in fishing, aquaculture, maritime development, and renewable energy initiatives such as wave energy.

Datuk Amar noted that these sectors could open new avenues for sustainable and competitive economic growth in the future.

The Kaul Festival, where the announcement was made, is a significant cultural event for the Melanau community and provided a fitting backdrop to highlight Mukah’s growing role in Sarawak’s development.

The ceremony was attended by several key leaders, including Minister of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Mukah Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib, Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh.
