MIRI – A total of RM88,500 has been channelled through the Minor Rural Project (MRP) to support community development in the Pujut constituency, covering sports, education, welfare, and cultural initiatives.
Pujut Assemblyman and Mayor of Miri City, Adam Yii Siew Sang, announced that the allocation was distributed to 19 local associations and organisations.
The funding is intended to strengthen community activities and programmes, ensuring inclusivity and comprehensive development.
Speaking at the MRP Presentation Ceremony held at the Pujut People’s Service Centre on Saturday, Adam Yii emphasised the importance of sustaining harmony in Sarawak’s multi-racial society, describing it as the foundation of the state’s strength and stability.
He noted that the government’s initiatives aim to empower communities while fostering unity.
He also highlighted the impact of the Sarawak Poor Home Improvement Project (PPRMS), which has significantly improved living conditions for the B40 group.
In Pujut alone, 287 houses were repaired between 2022 and 2025, benefiting 1,446 households. This programme, he said, demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of vulnerable groups.
Adam Yii encouraged eligible residents to approach the People’s Service Centre to obtain information and apply for assistance.
He stressed that government initiatives can only be fully effective if the public actively engages with the programmes available.
The ceremony underscored the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen community welfare through financial support and high-impact projects.
By investing in diverse sectors such as education, sports, and culture, the MRP allocation aims to create a balanced ecosystem that supports both social and economic growth.
Community leaders and representatives of recipient organisations expressed appreciation for the funding, noting that it would help sustain grassroots initiatives and improve quality of life.
