Miri Police Issue 50 Summons in Motorcycle Operation

MIRI – Police in Miri have intensified enforcement against motorcycle-related offences, issuing 50 summonses during a targeted operation on 2 May 2026.

The initiative, conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD), focused on Bekenu town and the Miri Bypass Road following public complaints about disruptive motorcycle activities.

The operation began at 11.00 pm and continued until 5.00 am the following morning. Officers inspected 45 motorcycles and checked 44 men and 7 women during the exercise.

Authorities reported that numerous violations were detected, ranging from riding without a valid licence to technical modifications that compromised safety standards.

Among the offences recorded were motorcycles with altered structures, modified exhaust systems producing excessive noise, missing side mirrors, absent or non-compliant registration numbers, and riders failing to wear helmets. Police also noted the use of “fancy” registration plates, which do not meet legal requirements.

During the enforcement, one motorcyclist was arrested under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the execution of his duties on the Miri Bypass Road.

The arrest highlighted the seriousness with which police view interference in official operations.

Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee bin Abdullah stressed that authorities will not tolerate individuals engaging in street gang activities or reckless behaviour that endangers both riders and other road users.

He reiterated that strict enforcement will continue to ensure compliance with traffic laws and to safeguard public order.

Police have urged the community to adhere to road regulations, avoid illegal modifications to vehicles, and refrain from activities that disrupt traffic flow.

The public is also encouraged to report information regarding street gang activities to the Miri IPD for immediate action.

The operation reflects the ongoing commitment of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to address traffic offences and enhance safety across Sarawak.
