KUCHING – A community-led cleanliness programme was carried out at the PPR/RPR Demak Laut housing area on 26 April and 3 May 2026, involving residents from Blocks A, B, C, D, E, F and H.
The initiative was organised by the Village Development and Safety Committee (JKKK) of Taman Sepakat Jaya Demak Laut, with active participation from local residents.
The programme aimed to ensure that the residential environment remains clean, comfortable, and conducive to healthy living.
Residents joined hands to clear common areas, dispose of waste responsibly, and tidy up shared facilities. The effort reflects the growing awareness among communities about the importance of maintaining hygiene and cleanliness in public housing schemes, especially in densely populated areas.
The campaign also served as a platform to strengthen neighbourly ties, as residents worked together to improve their surroundings.
Organisers highlighted that such cooperation not only enhances the physical environment but also fosters a sense of unity and shared responsibility among the community.
The Sarawak Housing Development Corporation noted that the programme demonstrates how grassroots initiatives can complement government efforts in maintaining public housing estates.
By involving residents directly, the campaign encourages long-term behavioural change and instils civic pride.
Community leaders expressed appreciation for the strong turnout, emphasising that the success of the programme lies in collective action.
They added that similar initiatives will continue to be encouraged in other housing areas to promote sustainable cleanliness practices.
