KUCHING (June 7): In response to the urgent need for blood at the Sarawak General Hospital blood bank, the Kuching Love Book Association is gearing up for its 12th blood donation campaign. The event will take place on Sunday, running from 9am to 2pm at Emart Batu Kawa.

Goodie bags and certificates for donors

The first 80 successful donors will be rewarded with a special goodie bag filled with essentials including a reusable bag, T-shirt, stress ball, 5kg of white rice, Milo, coffee, milk, and biscuits. Additionally, to commemorate ‘World Blood Donor Day’ on June 14, each successful donor will receive a certificate of appreciation.

Calling on the community to save lives

May Loo Hun Ing, the association’s founder and chairperson, has issued a heartfelt call to individuals from all walks of life to participate in this noble cause. Loo emphasized the profound impact of blood donation, highlighting that blood from just one donor can potentially save three lives.

Eligibility and preparation guidelines

Those interested in donating blood must be aged 18 and above, weighing at least 45kg. Minors aged 17 can donate with the presence of a parent or guardian. Prospective donors are advised to ensure they have had at least five hours of sleep, eaten breakfast, and abstained from alcoholic beverages for eight hours prior to donation.

Gratitude to supporters and sponsors

Expressing gratitude to key supporters and sponsors, Loo thanked the support unit, Blood Bank Sarawak General Hospital, and Malaysian Red Crescent, Kuching Branch. The association extends its sincere appreciation to Emart Batu Kawa for providing the venue for the blood donation campaign. Notably, sponsors for the event include 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta, Supreme Consolidated Resources Sdn Bhd, Everrise Departmental Store Sdn Bhd, and Wecare Bakery.
