LIMBANG – A late-night rescue operation was successfully carried out by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Limbang District after a cat became trapped in a tree near its owner’s home.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, when the District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received a call at 9.07pm reporting that a pet cat had climbed onto a tree branch and was unable to descend.
The location was approximately 6.7 kilometres from PKOD Limbang, prompting an immediate response from Charlie Squad.
Led by L/Kpl. (PA) Rosnani Binti Jahidi, four members of the squad arrived at the Bukit Hitam area to assess the situation.
The cat was found perched at a height that required specialised equipment. Using ladders and ropes, the team carefully climbed the tree and conducted the rescue operation.
According to Limbang District Civil Defence Officer Captain Jumaat Akasas, the team worked patiently to secure the animal. The cat was eventually persuaded to come down and was safely handed back to its owner.
The entire operation lasted around 30 minutes, concluding at 9.50pm once the area was confirmed safe and equipment packed away.
Officials highlighted that pet rescue cases, though less common than wildlife or disaster-related emergencies, are an important part of APM’s commitment to community service.
The operation demonstrated the dedication of personnel, often referred to as “BlueHeroes”,” who provide assistance regardless of the situation.
Residents were reminded that pets can sometimes climb into dangerous areas, particularly trees, and may struggle to return safely.
Attempting to retrieve them without proper equipment can pose risks to both the animal and the owner. APM encourages the public to contact trained personnel in such cases to ensure safe outcomes.
The Civil Defence Force reiterated its operational values of readiness, speed, and integrity, emphasising that its role extends beyond disaster response to include safeguarding the welfare of the community and even its pets.
