KUCHING – A new covered pedestrian path, named “Laluan Gemilang”, has been officially opened at SMK Jalan Arang, providing improved convenience and safety for students and staff.
The project, valued at RM170,000, was implemented under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) and officiated by YB Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang, Assemblyman for Batu Kitang.
The initiative is designed to ease daily movement within the school compound, particularly during adverse weather, ensuring both teachers and pupils can carry out their activities more comfortably.
The addition of the walkway reflects ongoing efforts to enhance school facilities and create a supportive learning environment.
The inauguration coincided with several other significant events at the school, including the presentation of incentives to outstanding SPM students from the 2025 cohort.
The awards recognised academic excellence and encouraged continued achievement among young learners.
The ceremony also featured a Teacher’s Day banquet, celebrating the dedication and commitment of educators, alongside the closing of the PTA Ceriathon Programme, organised by the Parent-Teacher Association and the Staff Welfare Committee.
Speaking at the event, YB Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang highlighted the importance of investing in education and infrastructure, noting that such projects contribute to the overall development of the community.
He emphasised that the walkway not only serves practical purposes but also symbolises the school’s commitment to progress and student welfare.
The PTA Ceriathon Programme, which concluded during the ceremony, had been aimed at strengthening collaboration between parents, teachers, and students.
Its activities underscored the role of community involvement in supporting education and fostering school spirit.
The Teacher’s Day banquet provided an opportunity to honour educators for their tireless service in shaping future generations.
Teachers were commended for their resilience and dedication, with the event reinforcing the value of their contributions to national development.
Meanwhile, the recognition of high-performing SPM students served as motivation for others to strive for excellence.
Incentives were presented to encourage continued academic success and to highlight the importance of perseverance in education.
The combined celebrations at SMK Jalan Arang demonstrated a holistic approach to education, where infrastructure improvements, student recognition, and teacher appreciation are all seen as vital components of a thriving school community.
The event was widely regarded as a success, reflecting the collaborative efforts of the school, PTA, and local leadership in advancing educational standards in Kuching.
