KUCHING – A joint enforcement operation involving the Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ Sarawak), the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Sarawak Cost of Living (KPDN Sarawak), and the Sarawak Safety and Enforcement Unit (UKPS Sarawak) has resulted in the inspection of nearly 900 vehicles and the seizure of 14 during a coordinated operation in Kuching.
The integrated operation, carried out on 20 May 2026, was conducted at two static checkpoints along Jalan Penrissen. Officers were stationed at Mile 7 heading towards Serian and Mile 8 heading towards Kuching.
The initiative was designed to strengthen enforcement synergy between agencies and ensure compliance with road safety regulations.
A total of 881 vehicles of various categories were inspected. Authorities reported several offences, including driving without a valid licence, failure to display registration numbers, expired licences, and technical violations relating to vehicle condition.
As part of the enforcement, 14 vehicles were seized. These included five cars, one truck, five motorcycles, two motorcycles operated by foreign drivers, and one motorcycle found to be using a false registration number.
The reasons for seizure ranged from expired motor licences and lack of insurance coverage to foreign drivers without valid permits and fraudulent registration use.
Senior officials were present to oversee the operation, including Sarawak Federal Secretary Dato Ahmad Nadzri bin Hassan; JPJ Sarawak Director Tuan Norizan bin Jili; Sarawak State KPDN Director Mr Matthew ak Dominic Barin; and senior UKPS officers.
Their attendance underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration in maintaining road safety and public order. JPJ Sarawak confirmed that enforcement actions were taken in line with existing legal provisions.
The department expressed appreciation to all participating agencies for their cooperation and commitment, noting that such integrated efforts are vital in ensuring that road users adhere to the law.
The operation reflects a broader strategy by Sarawak authorities to enhance road safety standards and reduce risks associated with non-compliance.
By targeting offences such as expired licences, uninsured vehicles, and illegal registrations, enforcement agencies aim to safeguard both drivers and the wider community.
Officials emphasised that continued collaboration between JPJ, KPDN, and UKPS will remain central to future enforcement activities.
The agencies are expected to maintain regular joint operations to monitor compliance and strengthen public confidence in road safety measures.
