The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, underscored the importance of digitalisation in transforming the labour market.

He explained that reforms in workforce management are not only about efficiency but also about ensuring equitable access to opportunities for all communities.

“The transformation of the employment ecosystem is aimed at improving efficiency while ensuring equitable access to opportunities for all segments of society, particularly through digital connectivity and institutional coordination,” he said in his winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly.

JobSarawak was introduced as a one-stop digital gateway to connect job seekers with meaningful career opportunities.

The platform simplifies job matching, enhances transparency in recruitment, and reflects Sarawak’s broader push towards a digitally enabled labour market.

Since becoming operational on 15 January 2025, the platform has recorded over one million website visits, signalling strong engagement from both employers and job seekers.

The initiative is supported by key agencies, including the Immigration and Labour Management Unit (ILMU) and the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).

This collaboration ensures better alignment between state and national workforce systems, strengthening employer engagement and job seeker support services.

More than 10,000 companies have registered on the platform, offering vacancies across diverse industries ranging from technology and manufacturing to services and logistics.

Importantly, JobSarawak adopts an inclusive approach by welcoming both Sarawakians and non-Sarawakians.

However, it incorporates clear indicators to identify Sarawakian applicants, supporting the state’s localisation strategy while maintaining competitiveness by allowing external talent to fill industry gaps when necessary.

The premier emphasised that JobSarawak is not just a recruitment tool but also a strategic pillar in Sarawak’s digital workforce ecosystem.

By expanding its user base and strengthening institutional support, the platform is expected to enhance employment accessibility, improve labour market coordination, and contribute meaningfully to Sarawak’s transformation into a developed economy.

Looking ahead, JobSarawak is positioned to evolve further as part of Sarawak’s long-term economic strategy.

With its integrated digital framework, the platform is expected to play a central role in retaining talent, boosting workforce participation, and ensuring that Sarawak remains competitive in the regional and global economy.
