MUKAH – Emergency handlers from the Civil Defence Force (APM) were called to a local residence on Thursday after an unsuspecting member of the public discovered a highly venomous reptile concealed inside a common household storage area.
The incident triggered an immediate call for professional wildlife intervention. The emergency call was placed by a resident who encountered the snake resting within the tiers of a domestic shoe rack.
Recognising the extreme hazard posed by the creature, the homeowner wisely refrained from disturbing it and contacted the authorities for assistance.
The distress alert was formally received and processed by the Mukah District Operations Control Center (PKOD).
A specialised wildlife response task force was immediately assembled and dispatched to the residential property to handle the dangerous situation.
Upon arriving at the scene, the emergency team carefully inspected the storage unit. They identified the intruder as a juvenile black cobra, measuring approximately 10 inches in length, which had sought shelter amidst the footwear.
Despite its diminutive size, a baby cobra possesses fully functional venom glands capable of delivering a highly toxic strike if threatened.
Utilising specialised snake tongs and applying precise pincer techniques, the trained responders managed to safely secure the reptile without aggravating it. The extraction operation was completed swiftly, ensuring the safety of the household occupants.
Following the successful capture, a thorough sweep of the immediate surroundings was conducted to guarantee that no other reptiles were lurking in the area.
APM Mukah officials confirmed that the entire operation proceeded smoothly, with no injuries or untoward incidents reported during the encounter.
The captive cobra was subsequently removed from the residential premises to be released back into an appropriate wilderness habitat away from urban developments.
The agency expressed its gratitude to the public for alertly reporting the threat rather than attempting to handle the venomous snake independently.
