KUCHING, 24 May 2026 – A meaningful community programme known as Kempen Sedekah Makanan was successfully carried out in conjunction with Wesak Day celebrations, bringing together residents from different backgrounds in a strong display of unity, care and compassion.
The programme was organised by the Persatuan Masyarakat Batu 7 Kuching and held at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Association Kuching on Sunday. It aimed to provide food assistance and support to needy families and individuals within the local community, especially those facing financial difficulties.
Wesak Day, which symbolises compassion, kindness and goodwill, provided a fitting backdrop for the initiative. The event reflected the true spirit of Sarawak, where people of different races, religions and cultures continue to live together in harmony while supporting one another in times of need.
Throughout the programme, community members from various faiths including Hindus, Buddhists and others came together with a shared purpose. The atmosphere was filled with mutual respect and a strong sense of togetherness, showing that acts of kindness can bridge all differences.
A total of 25 needy families received food assistance during the event. The distribution was carried out in an orderly manner with the help of volunteers who ensured that the aid reached those who needed it most. Beyond providing immediate relief, the initiative also encouraged stronger social responsibility and long-term community support.
Organisers highlighted that such programmes are important in strengthening neighbourhood ties and promoting a caring society. They emphasised that unity is not only expressed through words, but through consistent actions that help improve the lives of others.
The success of Kempen Sedekah Makanan demonstrates how community-driven efforts can make a real difference, especially when guided by values of compassion and cooperation. It also serves as a reminder that despite differences in belief or background, humanity remains the common bond that connects everyone.
As the programme concluded, participants left with a renewed sense of solidarity, reinforcing the message that helping others is a shared responsibility that benefits the entire community.
Different faiths, one community, one humanity – a message clearly reflected throughout the event.
