Sarawak Governor Completes Jamrah A’qabah Stoning Ritual

MINA – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi and their entourage, successfully completed the stoning ceremony at Jamrah A’qabah in Mina on 28 May.

The ritual, performed on the 10th of Zulhijjah, is one of the central obligations of the Hajj pilgrimage. Pilgrims symbolically cast stones at the Jamrah to signify the rejection of evil, a practice deeply rooted in Islamic tradition.

The ceremony is regarded as a pivotal moment in the pilgrimage, marking obedience and devotion to Allah SWT.

Following the completion of the stoning ritual, the governor and his entourage returned to their accommodation tent in Mina.

The group continued their worship and took time to rest in preparation for the subsequent days of tasyrik, during which pilgrims perform additional acts of devotion.

Tun Pehin Sri expressed his gratitude that the arrangements for his entourage’s prayers and rituals had been carried out smoothly.

He conveyed his hopes that all pilgrims would remain in good health and be granted the strength to complete their worship in the Holy Land.

The ceremony at Jamrah A’qabah is followed by other significant rites, including sacrificial offerings and the shaving or cutting of hair, which mark the completion of major obligations of the pilgrimage. Pilgrims then proceed to Mecca for tawaf and saie, fulfilling the remaining pillars of Hajj.

The governor’s participation in these rituals reflects the shared experience of millions of Muslims worldwide, who gather annually in Mina and Mecca to perform the fifth pillar of Islam.
