Sarawak Premier Receives Courtesy Visit from Waqf Foundation

KUCHING – Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, received a courtesy visit from the Sarawak Waqf Foundation at the Satria Pertiwi Complex on 29 May 2026.

The delegation was led by Dato Sri Abang Haji Abdul Karim bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, who discussed with the Premier efforts to strengthen strategic collaboration between the foundation and the Sarawak Government.

The meeting focused on advancing waqf development in a sustainable, progressive, and high-impact manner to benefit the people of Sarawak.

During the session, the delegation presented updates on several initiatives, including the establishment of the Sarawak Waqf Sustainability Fund (SWSF), the management and development of waqf assets, and community social development programmes. Strategic project plans with long-term benefits for Sarawak’s population were also highlighted.

The Premier emphasised the importance of waqf as a mechanism for social and economic empowerment, noting that effective management of waqf assets could contribute significantly to community welfare and inclusive development.

He welcomed the foundation’s commitment to aligning its initiatives with the state’s broader agenda for sustainable growth.

Also present at the meeting were Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for the Regional Development Agency, DBKU, and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Junaidi; President of the Sarawak Islamic Council, Datuk Haji Misnu Taha; and Chief Executive Officer of the Sarawak Waqf Foundation, Abang Haji Faisal bin Abang Haji Marzuki.

The visit underscored the foundation’s role in supporting Sarawak’s social development agenda through strategic partnerships with government agencies and religious institutions.
