SIBU – Firefighters in Sibu successfully extinguished a house fire at Kampung Jeriah Abg Rambli, Batu 7½ Jalan Oya, on Sunday, 7 June 2025. The incident involved a non-permanent wooden structure which was completely destroyed by the blaze.
The operation was led by PBK I Badrulhisam bin Bujang, who served as the commander on site. His team included PBK II (TBBK I) Mazlan bin Abu, acting as driver, alongside PBB Ralph bin Abdullah, PBB Ammar Asraf bin Azmi and PBB Nur Syakirin bin Zanudin.
The LFRT Artego vehicle (BJU 6191) was deployed to the scene, located approximately 14 kilometres from the station.
Upon arrival, the team conducted a rapid assessment and confirmed that the fire had engulfed the entire structure, estimated at 30 by 98 square feet.
The firefighters applied the RECEO concept, a standard firefighting strategy involving rescue, exposure protection, confinement, extinguishment and overhaul.
Members were instructed to wear full protective gear before pulling a starting line and extending a 200-foot hose.
A dividing breach and nozzle were used to channel water from the pump, with defensive methods applied through the rear of the house to suppress the flames.
The blaze was eventually brought under control, and the team ensured the area was safe before reporting back to the control centre.
Coordination was maintained with BBP Sungai Merah and KZ Sibu 01, while Charlie Team from BBP Sibu Jaya assisted in the operation.
Several agencies supported the response, including three personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), five members of the Civil Defence Force (APM), four representatives from Sarawak Energy, and four officers from the District Office.
Senior officer PgKB I Ts Andy Alie also attended the site to oversee the situation. The fire resulted in the total loss of the property, but no injuries were reported.
Authorities highlighted the importance of community vigilance and swift reporting of emergencies, which enabled a rapid response.
House fires remain a recurring challenge in Sarawak, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas where non-permanent structures are common.
Local authorities continue to remind residents to practise fire safety measures, such as avoiding overloading electrical circuits and ensuring cooking appliances are monitored.
The incident underscores the commitment of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department to public safety, with teams trained to act quickly and effectively in emergencies.
