KUCHING, 10 Jun 2026 – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia, APM) Kuching District has carried out a follow-up monitoring operation after a house fire destroyed a residence in Kampung Sri Arjuna, Jalan Puncak Borneo.
The incident, which took place earlier, involved a single-storey semi-permanent house that was severely damaged, with around 90 percent of the structure reported destroyed. Preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit originating from the front section of the house. Authorities are continuing to assess the exact cause as part of standard safety procedures.
Two occupants were involved in the incident, a 80-year-old elderly woman and a 50-year-old man. Both were affected by the fire, but they are now safe and receiving support from family members. Following the incident, APM Kuching together with related agencies visited the location to evaluate the situation and provide immediate assistance to the victims.
As part of the relief effort, a Post-Disaster Food Kit (Kotak Kit Makanan Pascabencana) was handed over to help the affected family meet their basic needs in the immediate aftermath of the fire. Authorities confirmed that no Temporary Evacuation Centre (Pusat Pemindahan Sementara, PPS) was opened, as the victims have been placed with relatives in Paya Mebi, Landeh.
APM officials emphasized that continuous monitoring will be carried out to ensure the well-being of the affected residents and to assess whether further assistance is required. The agency also reminded the public to take serious precautions regarding electrical safety, especially in older homes where wiring systems may pose higher risks if not properly maintained.
Members of the public are encouraged to report emergencies promptly and seek assistance when needed. APM Kuching has made available its emergency contact numbers, 082-252940 and 082-252941, as well as the national emergency line 999 for urgent situations.
Fire incidents involving suspected electrical faults remain a concern in residential areas, and authorities continue to stress the importance of regular safety inspections to prevent similar tragedies.
