LAWAS – The Sarawak Director of Public Works, YBhg. Datu Adj. Prof. Ir. Ts. Gs. Br. PMr. QPr. Dr. Cassidy anak Morris, continued his working visit to Lawas on 11 June 2026 by inspecting the progress of the construction of four additional teacher housing units and related facilities at SK Long Luping.
The visit was aimed at reviewing the implementation of the project to ensure that construction works are carried out according to the required specifications, quality standards, and timeline.
The project, which involves the addition of four teacher houses along with supporting facilities, is expected to improve living conditions for educators in rural areas.
Officials highlighted that the initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance the welfare of teachers, recognising that better housing and facilities contribute to improved morale and support the delivery of quality education to local communities.
According to the latest updates, the project has achieved 80.87 per cent physical progress, placing it 22.87 per cent ahead of schedule.
This reflects the strong commitment of contractors and stakeholders to complete the works earlier than originally planned.
Dr Cassidy emphasised the importance of ensuring that rural schools are equipped with adequate infrastructure, noting that such investments are crucial in bridging educational gaps between urban and rural areas.
He added that the project demonstrates the government’s dedication to improving the teaching environment, which in turn benefits students and the wider community.
The construction of teacher housing at SK Long Luping is part of ongoing development initiatives under the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak, which continues to prioritise projects that directly impact community welfare and education.
With the project nearing completion, stakeholders remain confident that the new facilities will provide long-term benefits, supporting educators in their roles and strengthening the overall education system in Lawas.
