KUCHING – The Sarawak Product Fair 2026 was officially declared open today, marking a significant milestone for the state’s economic and cultural calendar. The launch, officiated on behalf of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, was held at Emart Tabuan Jaya and celebrated a unique five-in-one occasion that highlighted Sarawak’s entrepreneurial spirit and community pride.
The event coincided with the fifth edition of the Sarawak Product Fair, the sixth anniversary of Emart Tabuan Jaya, the 21st anniversary of the Emart Group, the 38th anniversary of Kuching City, and the Sarawak Day celebration. Together, these milestones underscored the growth of Sarawak’s retail sector and the enduring strength of local businesses.
Mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Wee Hong Seng, who officiated the opening, emphasised the importance of supporting homegrown products. He highlighted that the fair was not only a showcase of Sarawak’s diverse goods but also a reflection of the state’s identity and resilience.
The Deputy Premier’s message was clear: “You love Sarawak, please support and buy Sarawak Products.” This call to action reinforced the idea that every purchase contributes directly to local families, sustains employment, and ensures that Sarawak’s wealth remains within its communities.
The fair featured a wide range of products, from heritage brands such as Lee Fah Mee and Sundrop to newer names like Eco Fresh, which represent innovation and sustainability. These brands illustrate how Sarawak’s economy is evolving, blending tradition with modern consumer demands.
Visitors to the fair were encouraged to explore stalls offering food, beverages, household items, and lifestyle products, all produced by Sarawakian entrepreneurs. Organisers noted that the event was designed to highlight the diversity of local industries, from long-established family businesses to emerging enterprises that are shaping the future of the state’s economy.
The Sarawak Product Fair has become a platform for businesses to connect with consumers while promoting the value of buying local. It also serves as an opportunity for entrepreneurs to expand their reach, strengthen brand recognition, and contribute to Sarawak’s broader economic development agenda.
The celebration of Kuching City’s 38th anniversary added a civic dimension to the event, reminding attendees of the city’s progress and its role as a hub for commerce and culture. Meanwhile, the Sarawak Day element reinforced the sense of unity and pride among the people, linking economic activity with cultural identity.
Industry observers have noted that fairs such as this are vital in sustaining local economies, particularly in an era of global competition. By encouraging consumers to prioritise Sarawak-made products, the initiative helps safeguard jobs and supports the growth of small and medium enterprises.
The Emart Group, celebrating its 21st anniversary, has played a pivotal role in shaping Sarawak’s retail landscape. Its expansion over the years reflects the increasing demand for accessible shopping experiences and the importance of retail hubs in community life. The sixth anniversary of Emart Tabuan Jaya further highlighted the outlet’s contribution to Kuching’s commercial growth.
The fair also carried symbolic weight as part of Sarawak Day celebrations, reminding citizens of their shared heritage and collective responsibility to support local initiatives. The combination of economic, cultural, and civic milestones created a festive atmosphere that resonated strongly with attendees.
Organisers expressed optimism that the fair would inspire more Sarawakians to embrace local products as part of their daily lives. They stressed that consumer choices have a direct impact on the sustainability of businesses and the prosperity of the state.
As the fair continues, visitors are encouraged to participate actively by purchasing local goods and engaging with entrepreneurs. The event is expected to draw significant crowds, reflecting the growing awareness of the importance of supporting Sarawak’s economy from within.
