MALUDAM – The Public Works Department (JKR) Betong Division, in collaboration with Service Centre N.28 Lingga and key stakeholders, carried out a site inspection on 16 July to assess progress and requirements for the Kampung Maludam Football Field Upgrade Project.
The initiative forms part of the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2026, aimed at enhancing rural infrastructure and community facilities across Sarawak.
The visit focused on evaluating the technical aspects of the project, including the scope of work, site conditions, and coordination between the implementing agency, contractors, and community representatives.
Officials stressed that direct engagement at the site is crucial to identifying potential challenges early, expediting decision-making, and ensuring smooth implementation.
The football field upgrade is one of several projects under RTP 2026 designed to empower rural communities by providing safe, high-quality, and conducive facilities.
The initiative reflects the Sarawak Government’s commitment to improving living standards in rural areas, with sports infrastructure seen as a vital component of community development.
Stakeholders highlighted that the upgraded facility will serve multiple purposes beyond recreation. It is expected to become a hub for youth activities, a venue for community events, and a platform to nurture sports talent among the younger generation. By creating such spaces, the government aims to foster social cohesion and encourage healthy lifestyles.
The site visit also underscored the importance of collaboration between government agencies, contractors, and local communities. JKR officials noted that effective coordination ensures projects are delivered on time and meet the needs of residents.
Community representatives welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the upgraded football field would benefit both youth and families in Kampung Maludam and surrounding areas.
The RTP programme, introduced to accelerate rural development, has been instrumental in bridging gaps between urban and rural infrastructure. By focusing on projects such as sports facilities, roads, and utilities, the programme seeks to create equitable opportunities for communities across Sarawak.
In Betong Division, several RTP projects are underway, ranging from road upgrades to community halls. The football field project in Maludam is seen as a priority due to its potential to support youth engagement and strengthen community identity.
Sports development has been increasingly recognised as a driver of social and economic growth. Facilities like the Maludam football field not only encourage participation in physical activities but also provide venues for local tournaments, fostering a sense of pride and unity.
Officials emphasised that the success of RTP projects depends on active involvement from all stakeholders. By conducting site visits and engaging directly with communities, agencies can ensure that projects align with local needs and expectations.
The Maludam project is expected to progress swiftly following the site inspection, with contractors and agencies working closely to address technical requirements. Once completed, the facility will stand as a testament to the government’s commitment to rural transformation and community empowerment.
