SIBU (Sept 10) — In a heartbreaking development, the body of a 23-year-old man who had been reported missing near Lanang Bridge on September 6 was found drowned in Batang Igan last night. The unfortunate discovery was made by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and marked the end of a desperate search that began when the man was first reported missing.

Discovery of the Deceased

The Fire and Rescue Department reported that the body was discovered floating near a shipyard wharf in Sungai Bidut at approximately 10:21 PM. Despite efforts to recover the body promptly, it was initially unidentified. Bomba, in collaboration with the police and the Civil Defence Force (APM), coordinated a swift response. The APM operation team used a boat to retrieve the body.

Identification Confirmed

It was not until 5:54 AM the following day that the police were able to confirm the identity of the deceased. The body was identified as that of the missing man, marking a somber conclusion to the search.

Circumstances Leading to the Search

The search for the young man commenced following a police report lodged by his father. According to the report, the man had left home on the evening of September 5 around 8 PM to check his salary but never returned. His motorcycle was later discovered near Lanang Bridge, accompanied by his mobile phone and a handwritten note. These findings heightened concerns and prompted a thorough search operation.
